Scholarship America Sponsor Q&A: TireHub’s Educational Journey Scholarship

TireHub operates as a nationwide distributor for Bridgestone and Goodyear tires, keeping the nation mobile. Their aim is straightforward yet challenging: to deliver the appropriate tire at the appropriate time to customers. Tire dealerships depend on TireHub to provide tires that ensure their customers can drive safely and efficiently.

To gain insights into the motivation behind TireHub’s Road to Education scholarship program, we interviewed Leon McIntosh, the Director of Talent and Employee Relations at TireHub.

Since its inception in 2018, Leon has dedicated himself to serving TireHub employees, affectionately called Hubbers, leveraging over 30 years of leadership experience to enhance the workplace at TireHub.

Scholarship America: Can you describe your position at TireHub and your involvement with the Road to Education scholarship program?

Leon McIntosh: In my role as the Director of Talent and Employee Relations, I oversee the development and management of initiatives that help our employees and their families achieve their objectives while with TireHub. Part of this role involves ensuring that the scholarship program offers meaningful support and assistance to our hourly employees each year.

SA: In what way does the scholarship program enhance your recruitment and retention strategies?

LM: This initiative is limited to two key positions within the company. These roles, which are crucial for our operations, experience high turnover and represent 85% of our workforce. Therefore, the program plays a significant role in attracting and retaining individuals in the most vital positions, and by restricting it to these two roles, we signal to our employees how important they are.

SA: Why does TireHub consider it essential to allocate scholarships for the children of employees?

LM: Quite simply, it’s the right thing to do. Our staff members put in a great deal of effort for TireHub; this is a modest way of showing our appreciation.

SA: How do you believe the Road to Education initiative will influence your future workforce?

LM: TireHub is dedicated to helping our employees and their families recognize the value they bring to our organization. Given the current economic landscape and the rapidly rising costs of higher education, the Road to Education initiative supports our workforce in understanding their worth, assists them in achieving their aspirations, and boosts the chances of them remaining with TireHub.
